Sadly, I had to put my best friend and life partner in a home because his dementia was advancing and I could no longer do this on my own at home. I am so thankful to several neighbors and friends who pointed me to this wonderful caring home for people like Pete. These neighbors and friends each had someone at one time or another in Carlton on Patterson Boulevard and had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. Well, I can only add to that, enough good things cannot said about Carlton. The staff is wonderful, caring and nurturing. Recently Pete had to be hospitalized and then put in a rehab place in Walnut Creek for a couple of weeks. It is during that time that I saw the difference between that place and Carlton in every way. When I was finally able to bring Pete back to Carlton he was greeted with warmth and shouts of 'hi Peter', welcome back Peter; it was truly heartwarming. Must not forget how clean Carlton is. I could go on and on about how wonderful Carlton is all around and how wonderful staff and management are. Thank you Jonathan, Tommy, and staff, you guys are the BEST!!!!

My husband and I recently explored this community for my father-in-law and were very impressed by the hospitality and customer service we experienced with Tommy. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the facility itself was well-maintained and inviting. Pricing was reasonable and transparent, which made our decision-making process easier.

Unfortunately, we ultimately decided not to proceed with placing my father-in-law there, as he wasn’t ready to be away from family at this time. However, we wanted to express our appreciation for the understanding and patience shown by Tommy and his team throughout our visit. We would certainly recommend this community to others based on our positive experience.

Unfortunately with a turn of events we had to relocate her closer to my mother. But all hands down if I were to recommend to family or friends for further assistance. My Dad suffers from advanced dementia. His care was becoming too much for my mom. We found the Carlton, met Tom, took a tour. We liked what we saw. I saw happy, well cared for residents, a clean facility and most importantly a staff who cares and seems happy working there. We decided this was the place for dad. My brother arranged to get a care assessment by Tommy. Stopping for coffee before, my dad suffered a very bad fall in a parking lot. He was rushed to the hospital, spent 8 days in ICU. While he was in the hospital, Tommy came to the hospital to complete the care assessment so he could be moved directly to the facility, wow! My dad has now been a resident since October 2022, loves his caregivers and actually doesn’t get as anxious due to their regular, engaging schedules and activities. We are very pleased and have the peace of mind about his happy, safe quality of life.

I am so happy I found Carlton Memory Care of Contra Costa! My husband is thriving there.

I hadn't intended to move my husband out of our home this soon. But he had gotten ill, went to the emergency room, and had to be placed into care right away. Staff at Carlton came immediately to assess him and process the paperwork for entry. It was handled smoothly and quickly for such a major transition.

The staff was so caring and attentive while my husband was healing that he felt like he was in a spa. He liked the meals and the friendly staff, and all his needs were being met. He was content.

Carlton was willing to keep him just a month or two for respite, but he adjusted so well that I felt it was best to have him continue living there. It was a difficult decision for me, but it had been getting harder for me, as his sole caregiver, to keep him safe at home.

I was concerned that as my husband recovered, he would be upset and would ask to come home. He didn't! A couple of times when he saw me he expressed sadness at missing me, but he recovered quickly. I attribute that to the wonderful staff. From the start, they included him in the community and cheerfully addressed him by name whenever seeing him or just passing him in the hall. He felt accepted, understood and cared for.

When I visit, I sometimes participate in the group activities. The residents are engaged and have fun. We sing along to the songs, many from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. We also dance. And we laugh. Other activities include bingo, balloon toss, chair exercise, and simple trivia quizzes. Those who can communicate do.

Carlton staff are educated in Teepa Snow's methods of dementia care. They know how to enter the residents' reality and respond affirmatively to confusing comments, as if they understood. The residents are encouraged but not forced to participate in group activities. My husband is a walker, so he walks the long, connected halls and greets staff and other residents along the way, also stopping to talk to staff in their offices. He always gets a warm, welcoming response.

When he was admitted, the staff discussed with me specifics about his medication and care needs. All the staff, regardless of their duties, are cheerful, professional and kind, not only toward the residents but toward their families. Seeing my husband so included and cared for eases my mind and helps me with this life transition.

EVERY member of Carlton’s staff have been so welcoming and AMAZING!!
He is so well cared for daily and he is happy!! The staff reach out when he needs anything, they reach out to the Dr when needing something and myself and my family are at such a peaceful place knowing how well he is cared for and how well he is doing.
Lots of activities for residents with in person entertainment, he loves the movies and popcorn. I told one of the Nurses today that I can finally breathe knowing how wonderful the care is and how happy he is!! Thank you!! ❤️❤️

Hi there,
My mom has been at Carlton Senior Living Memory Care for about a year, and has received excellent care here. The environment is professional, as well as kind, warm, and attentive. I am able to visit my mother often, and have been welcomed warmly by staff every time. The administrators and staff are so loving, and if we have any special requests, they are honored in a very timely manner. I am so grateful for everyone here who has helped us on this journey. Their smiles and energy are truly amazing, and give us so much encouragement.

Both of my parents are currently living at Carlton Senior Living Memory Care, Poet's Corner in Pleasant Hill. They've been there for a couple months now. I am so happy with the care they've been given. The staff are all very caring and very helpful. They keep posted with everything. The food they're given is good and nutritious.
