Dr. Wielenga is a class act. I hate going to doctors offices because most of the time I feel rushed but Dr. Wielenga made me feel comfortable. He makes medicine easy to understand because he cares about the details. You can tell he does his research and really loves his craft. I love that he is a nerd and loves star wars references. Theres doctors that start their own practice to feel good about themselves and then theres doctors like Dr. Wielenga who started their practice to pour their passion into it. I felt comfortable in his care and he doesn't overprescribe medication. He is also incredibly generous with his referrals. If you're in Downey and you are looking for authentic care, Dr. Wielenga is your guy.

I have had wonderful experiences with this office, but today my father was trying to schedule an appointment for a follow up. The receptionist was extremely rude and had no patience for my father, whom does not speak English fluently. At the end of the call, as he was trying to confirm that everything for his appointment was set, the receptionist hung up on him. I understand that communication with patients who don’t speak English fluently can be difficult, but I believe it is important that Dr. Wielinga speaks with his team and they understand how important it is to treat their patients with respect. Especially, considering they are located in a neighborhood that serves majority Latinos.

This office has changed since 2013. In 2013 they had more attentive providers and staff. The current staff is rude 😒. The lady at the prescription refills never answers. I placed a prescription request 1 week ago and haven't heard back from them. I honestly feel and know that the Geriatric Population is the most vulnerable and needs more attentive and quality care. This office does not focus on what matters most. I am very disappointed with their level of care and customer service.
