This review is a long time coming. My boy that was treated here by Dr. MacDonald passed away back in 2021, so it’s slightly less painful to write this now. We live 5 hours north of this clinic and our regular DVM referred us to Dr. MacDonald back in 2016 when she discovered a heart murmur in our then 9 year old Aussie. For the next 5 years we made the trek south every 6 months to monitor his heart. The staff there was always so amazing — warm, patient, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Dr. MacDonald is an incredible doctor and to this day I’m grateful that our boy was in her care. Not only is she a talented and knowledgeable expert in her field, but she is also one of the most empathetic and compassionate humans I’ve met. She understood my sensitive boy’s needs and always allowed me in the back to help hold for his echo — I will forever be grateful for that. It always made the whole experience so much less stressful on me and my dog. She was very proactive in her treatment protocol and always treated our boy like her own. When we first met with her, she hoped to get 1.5 - 2 years for our boy, and with her care we were able to get him another 5 healthy, happy years. We are forever grateful and thankful for Dr. MacDonald and the staff there. I hope none of our animals will ever need a cardiologist again but, if they do, Dr. MacDonald is the one and only doctor we will ever take them to.

The reception team tonight was stellar! Everyone I spoke with was patient, kind, and understanding and always found a way to answer my questions. My dingus husky sliced her paw at the beach (not a life threatening injury by any means) and we were able to wait in the comfort of our car, watch a movie or two on Netflix and then the front desk staff called me when the doctor was ready for us. My dog is very anxious, so the medical staff minimized our time spent in the clinic, and we waited in the car for her medications to be filled. Yes, we waited 4 hours to be seen, but that's better than waiting until Monday and hope our GP could squeeze us in. The dogs that were seen before us were obviously in seriously life-threatening situations. Some owners left with only a leash, and I got to go home with my dog, so that is 100% worth the wait. Thank you, ACC, for treating my pup with dignity and compassion, and thank you for getting us in and out so we could sleep in our own bed tonight.

Some time ago I had to bring my puppy to VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County after noticing she was limping. We just lost our previous dog to VDD not that long ago, so we were extremely anxious and wanted to get her checked out right away. We chose this hospital because we live nearby. My husband arrived first because he was working close by, and later I came with our puppy. He told me that he was the first in line, but when I came, we still had to wait over an hour because all the doctors were busy. Which is completely understandable.
At some point, they took my puppy to the back and invited us into a room. Before even examining our girl, the doctor came out to us and immediately suggested it could be a disc issue. Without having seen her yet! That hit me hard because of our recent loss, and I broke down in tears. This was the last thing I was prepared to hear. The doctor looked at my husband, visibly surprised by my reaction, and asked if I was okay. My husband asked her if she even looked at the dog. The doctor admitted she hadn't yet, and he told her something along these lines "Please go check on her first, and then come back to tell us what's going on. We just lost a puppy to IVDD. Please don't make assumptions before examining her."
After finally seeing my puppy, the doctor came back and reassured us that it was just a sprain, not a serious issue. While I appreciate that everything turned out fine, I wish the doctor had approached the situation with more care from the start.
On a positive note, the front desk staff was absolutely wonderful! Kind, patient, and understanding. They were the highlight of our visit and deserve FIVE stars on their own. In the end, we received proper treatment and instructions, but the initial experience left a bad impression.
Overall, I'd give this experience 3.5 stars. The medical care itself was fine, but the communication from the doctor could have been handled much better.

We have always recommended and supported your business and will continue to do so. The staff is consistently compassionate and attentive. However, our experience with the doctor was disappointing. After waiting in the room for two hours, she asked how the issue occurred, but before I could fully explain, she abruptly cut me off, stating, "I don't really need to hear this, and we have other patients waiting." Her dismissive attitude and unwillingness to listen, even for a few seconds, to potentially valuable information felt unprofessional and rude.

All of the staff here are so kind and compassionate, which is exactly what you need when you are at the emergency vet. However, the prices are heartbreaking, and the worst part is that there's no sliding scale system or payment plans, just a credit card you would have to apply for. Even the entrance/exam fee is 195 dollars, just to be seen. I appreciate that none of the staff made me feel ashamed for not being able to afford the tests they were recommending, but it feels absolutely awful to not even be able to afford the testing and go home with no clear idea of what's wrong with my pet and what my next steps should be, other than just monitoring and bringing to our normal vet in the morning. Again, the staff was super helpful in the ways they could be, and reminded me I can always call and ask for advice through the night, and I know pricing is outside of their control. I really hope the company lowers prices or comes up with more financially supportive options so people in all financial situations can have access to good, reliable emergency vet services all 24 hours of the day.

We brought our dog Chloe in she’s a pit bull mix to have her get looked at for hives, not eating, and shaking. She was being boarded over Christmas for 2 nights at It’s A Dog’s Life in Petaluma and she came back to us with all these symptoms and more. All the staff here at VCA were soooo incredible from the front desk to the vet! Dr Lehmann was amazing she helped us through it gave her some medication and did a full examination. The vet tech that was helping us I don’t know her name but she had brown hair and pretty blue eyes and she was very very helpful and nice! I appreciate you guys so much! Thank you!

They were the best. We brought our 7lb Terrier into the ER after she had quite a bit of vomiting. Everyone from the reception to the doctor were excellent. Thank you… thankfully she was okay and is doing well. Thank you.❤️
