I'm trying to become a new patient and I waited on hold to talk to someone for 45 minutes. FINALLY they say they can't take my call and hung up on me LMAO. I also tried to call another UPMC and the number I was given is NOT IN SERVICE. If this is any indication of how these places are ran I don't want any part of it.

I’ve been going to this location for about 4 years now and see Kate Will, a PA under Dr. Salim. Note that I’m someone with very very low tolerance for ineptitude - if I didn’t love this location and team I wouldn’t go back. I’m actually only reviewing because I was looking up the phone number and saw the negative reviews and have never had any of the experiences of the bad reviews. Everyone has always been really nice to me at this office and I’ve never had issues getting in for an appointment - there mightve been a wait for the first appointment ever but I’ve been able to get in within the next week every time I’ve needed something since. The nursing staff is super responsive to MyUPMC messages through the app (and I am somebody who asks tons of questions and followups via that route because we’ve been switching up my meds over the last couple years.) The phone can be tricky sometimes but I’ve never had it be harder to call them than any other dr’s office. Message wise they’re always on top of it and I’ve even had other PAs respond promptly to clear messages if Kate has been out. I’ve never had an issue getting prescription refills and Kate is super receptive to how medication is making me feel and tweaking things or trying things if I’m having side effects or not seeing results. I’m also somebody who in general is kind of paranoid about taking meds at all and her graciousness about mental health and being responsive to my experiences on different meds has helped me become someone who actually takes my medication. Additionally, I have a high BMI and I’ve never experienced any of the bias or blaming-everything-on-being-fat issues that I’ve gotten in other healthcare systems or that I know a lot of people go through. I’ve never had to wait too long in the waiting room, they’ve switched to video visits for me at the last minute if I didn’t feel like driving, and they’ve helped me through getting prior approval from my insurance for some specific procedures a few times. All in all I’ve had a really good experience with Green Tree (I also see the ObGyn office on the same floor as primary care) and I would recommend them to someone trying to establish their primary care team.

This is where healthcare comes to die. It's such a shame that the staff here is so abhorrent because I really enjoy Dr. Salim, but it's not worth the abuse you have to endure just to be seen. I got caught in a bureaucratic loophole between the doctor's office and my pharmacy where I couldn't get my prescription filled early, but was going to be out of town/run out of medication before returning and wouldn't have access to a pharmacy. The pharmacy needed the approval of the doctor and sent the request and never recieved a response (shocking). I called the office after hours three times trying to get this sorted. First I was told they could only take care of it if my pharmacy called them but they couldn't put me in touch with the doctor on call. It's not my pharmacy's policy to call and they had already faxed the request. The second time I called the lady suggested I go to an urgent care. I called the urgent care and they said they wouldn't be able to fill a depression/anxiety medication like that, so I desperately called again and spoke to someone who was so condescending and rude to me. I explained my situation and that it was negligent to rip me off 150mg of an antidepressant aburptly. She said, "Yeah, I take those too, that's why I call and make sure about a week in advance." I lost my temper at that which I regret, but there is 0 excuse for your staff to act the way they do. Shame on you UPMC. How presumptuous of your employee to not only take an actively condescending tone with a patient, but to assume to know anything about my circumstances. Sometimes, unexpected things happen and emergency situations arise. We can't plan everything at least a week in advance, Kelsey. That is literally the entire point of having a doctor on call. I get it, if you dont want to refill a prescription on the weekends, but it is downright NEGLIGENT to actively allow a patient to abruptly stop taking a high dosage of an SNRI. As the healthcare organization that is actively prescribing medication, you have an absolute responsibility to ensure that your patients have access to those medications, especially when the potential consequences of abruptly stopping that medication can be so incredibly detrimental to your patient's health. Inexcusable, disgusting, and everything that is wrong with American healthcare. Be better. Do better. If you're thinking about becoming a patient here, the doctors are great but not worth it. Save yourself the trouble. Go literally anywhere else.

Easily one of the worst experiences you can have at a medical facility. I’d gone here for years and experienced everything from my PCP getting my name wrong on multiple occasions, lapses in prescription renewals that caused me to get sick, my PCP trying to pressure me into staying on a medication that made my body hurt from head to toe as a side effect.

They’re always trying to rush you out the door instead of actually listening to your medical concerns. It always felt like anything I brought up went in one ear and out the other. Especially when only 2/3 of what I’d brought up was actually touched on before the doctor rushed out the door.

If you want a PCP with a team that seems to have your wellbeing as their first priority then look elsewhere.

This office is truly the worst experience with healthcare that I have had. The front office staff is always rude, they don’t pick up the phone, it is extremely difficult to speak to a physician or clinical staff. When you are able to send messages and they actually respond the answers are short, confusing, and unhelpful. I have never had such a low level of care in any other setting. Do not go here.

I hate to say this because Dr. Salim herself is a great doctor, but getting to actually see her is near impossible. The staff leaves much to be desired. I tried to call last week to ask a question that did NOT require a doctor appointment and the staff would not put me through to speak to a nurse. A nurse finally called back with a response from Dr. Salim, but the staff totally wrote down the wrong question to ask the doctor and so the response that I got was downright insulting. Most of the time when I try to call to get an appointment the staff tries to schedule me with a PA. I have had Dr. Salim as my doctor for 13 years but that is now over, which makes me sad because while she is a great doctor and cares about my health, the rest of the staff at Pittsburgh Internal Medicine leaves much to be desired.

Do not go here!!! Multiple terrible experiences and I've only gone twice! As a nurse within UPMC, I'm embarrassed that they are considered part of UPMC. My physician was supposed to order refills of my inhaler when I saw her in July because I only had 3 left. Went to get my inhaler filled and there were no refills left. She never called it in. Spent 3 days with the pharmacy and myself calling and calling and calling the office with "urgent" marking the refill request every time. They just kept saying that the order was sitting there waiting for my doctor's approval. Every person I spoke to said they had no idea how long it would take to refill my inhaler despite me telling them that I am having trouble breathing because I have not been able to take my inhaler for 3 days. Instead of refilling it, I get a call from the triage nurse saying they were following up about my shortness of breath!! I once again explained that I would not have shortness of breath if they would just approve the refill for my inhaler. I then asked to speak to a manager and was told she would call me. Still waiting for that too...

Bar none, the single WORST physician's office I have ever had. Avoid them at all costs. The Doctors are rude and have the bedside manor of Joseph Mengele. Just to get someone to pick up the phone when you call in takes over a half an hour on hold every single time. And forget about prescription refills. They want an office visit with each and every one just so they can collect the fees. I cannot say strongly enough how utterly horrid and inconvenient, not to mention INCOMPETENT they are!
