My was stayed at Pacific Coast Post Acute for 13 weeks. It was very hard on me, but was a spa/resort experience for her. Staff and professionals were so kind, caring, and effective we felt she received the very best of care. Even though there many patients, each one receives loving, personal attention. My wife couldn’t have been happier and came away feeling personally fond of many staff members! We recommend this staff and facility with our greatest sincerity and gratitude. I’m disabled and have been to a few places in Monterey County when I need acute rehab and Pacific Coast Post Acute is by far the best place I’ve been.

The staff is caring and professional. Protocols and rules are adhered to. Nurses are knowledgeable and responsive. The CNAs are friendly to each other and to patients. We have our dignity here.

The therapy program will have you back on your feet in no time.

I spent 10 weeks in Pacific Coast Acute Care during the summer of 2023. I needed rehab after being injured in a fall. Unfortunately, when I was discharged I was no better off than when I went in. Individual staff members were competent enough, and some were downright excellent. But collectively, the staff was very disorganized, and the place was chaotic. There was constant noise 24/7. Some of it was hearing everyone's TVs all the time, and some of it was patients shouting for help. Wait times for assistance were exceptionally long. 60-90 minutes was not uncommon. Before long I was among the patients screaming for assistance. Sometimes I called my wife and she also tried, without success, to get me some attention. One time I had gone so long without assistance, 2-1/4 hours, that I almost called 911.

One time, as was routine, a CNA came in to take my vital signs. I asked her for a little assistance to make me more comfortable. It would have taken her 30-60 seconds to do what I asked. Instead, she took that amount of time to explain why she didn't have time to help me because she needed to turn in her vitals readings or she would get yelled at. "You don't want me to get yelled at, do you?" she said, leaving me in a position of discomfort much longer than I wanted to be. Unfortunately this sort of thing was pretty common.

One time I started feeling a little sick, and I asked the doctor for a COVID test when she made her morning rounds. She readily agreed. But hours passed and no test. I needed to take the test before my afternoon physical therapy to know if I was safe to be in contact with others. I asked the nurse on duty and she said it would need to be authorized by the doctor before I could have the test. There was no authorization, and the doctor had left for the day. I called my wife, who in turn called the facility and she got stuck in the same bureaucratic maze. Finally someone contacted the doctor and got the authorization, and the test came out negative. We thought I just had a cold. Several days later, as my symptoms were waning, a few patients tested positive for COVID, and I was among them. I was put in isolation for 10 days. They gave me COVID medication which was supposed to be given twice a day for five days, but they only gave me 4 days worth.

The food was OK, but inconsistent. Some days were pretty good, others not so much. Usually meals were well balanced, but one time dinner was a pile of noodles and a bread stick. I refused it and asked for some protein and vegetables with my carbs. Steffi brought some meatballs and pasta. The default beverage was something like Kool Aid. One had to request juice or milk. I will say the evening staff was very helpful in bringing me late night snacks, such as bananas, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and ice cream.

The physical therapists were very good for the most part, though a couple were kind of annoying. They were not regular staff members, but itinerant workers who came from different parts of the country and only worked a few months before moving to another facility. That made no sense to me. The bottom line was that 30 minutes of PT every day wasn't sufficient to overcome 23-1/2 hours of idleness so I made little progress.

In early August I was told I would be discharged in 10 days. The discharge process was chaotic, communication was poor, and I was not properly prepared to go home. Long story short I was back in the hospital within 23 hours because I couldn't function in my own home.

Avoid this place if you possibly can. The environment was very stressful, and not at all conducive to healing.

Lou and Connie in Physical Therapy have helped my mother gain back much of the mobility she lost during Covid. Their attention to her needs is improving not only my mom's quality of life - but by extension her family's as well.

We appreciate the staff at Pacific Coast. I selected a 4 star only because the first night we had my mom at Pacific Coast there was a lack of communication between morning staff and the evening staff. Once the supervisors got involved there was a complete understanding and no more issues. We truly appreciate the staff who looked after my mom while in hospice. She spent her last few days at Pacific Coast and after she passed away the staff was very helpful and understanding.

5 stars isn't enough for the quality care Pacific Coast has given my grandmother and our family alike since she has been admitted to their facility. They have gone above and beyond to make sure she is comfortable. Pacific Coast continues to keep our family up to date on her progress/daily status. She is in great hands. The facility is beautiful (my son loves watching the birds in the office while we visit). I would highly recommend Pacific Coast to anyone needing care for themselves/ their loved ones. They put their patients needs and beliefs first. Thank you so much!!!

Parking lot is terrible!!!! Was blocked in by 3 cars. Had to wait for about half an hour just to get out. Terrible! On the other side, people who work there were very kind and friendly. Also, helpful. Manager was awesome. She listened kindly to my frustration and concern regarding the parking situation.
