I am a nurse and currently teach nursing school. I have not worked for Mercy Crest, but I have been bringing nursing students here for during clinical rotations. In my professional opinion, this is a great facility. It is an older building with traditional, religious decor, but maintenance seems to do a great job keeping the facility in good shape. It is a 2-story facility that is a large square with two elevators and plenty of nooks or seating spaces along the hallways for residents to stop and rest. There is a large dining room with multiple food options available throughout the day. There is a secure memory care unit and a big activity room with an aquarium and some birds to watch, along with daily scheduled activities. There is also outdoor seating and a big courtyard, as well as a chapel and a new gym getting ready to open. The Director of Nursing seems to genuinely care about the facility and its residents. The staff have all been warm and welcoming and interacted professionally with the residents. The nurses (particularly Jamie) are efficient, friendly, and provide great care. I have only witnessed safe medication practices, including ensuring the medication cart was locked before leaving it and staying with the residents while they take their medicine. Visitation is not restricted at the facility, and the residents all have their own private apartments. The facility has ample parking, some of which is covered. I have not heard any negative remarks regarding the facility or staff from any of the residents or families I have spoken with, and with what I've seen while working inside the facility I would have no problems bringing a loved one here to live.

In a recent visit, I was shocked to see a medicine cart unattended in the hallway. It was very concerning to me! And, at a different time, I stood and watched the nurse dispurse medicine as residents entered the dining hall, giving them their cupful of medicine, a water and walking away! No guarantee the medicine is even being taken!
Some individuals on the staff are wonderful, and others are obviously there to only receive a paycheck and it shows! There is plenty of room for improvement at Mercy Crest.

I have had a family friend who has lives at Mercy Crest for a number of years. We are very disappointed in some of the staff and administration choices. I would not put my mother in Mercy Crest.
