My child was seen by Keystone Peds Walk-in recently. She had been running a fever for 4 days at that point and had developed a mucousy cough. The doctor stated that it was just a virus and it would run it course and there was nothing that needed to be done/given besides fever meds and cough syrup as needed and that she needed to be off the rest of that week.
As the weekend/following week went on she progressively got worse. The cough was so bad that she would vomit from it. Her temperature stayed consistent and never went away. So I called back into the peds office and stated that she had been seen the previous week and nothing had improved. It had actually gotten worse. I asked what the doctor could do for us and if he could call anything into the local pharmacy for my child since the fever never went away and my child was now vomiting's from the excessive coughing. I called back several times that day to get an answer before they closed for the day. I asked to speak to a nurse after I was told that the only thing that was called in was Robitussin and Zofran . I asked the nurse if the Robitussin was prescription strength or OTC. She stated that it was OTC strength and not prescription. I had expressed my concerns that all of the OTC cough medicine that we had used up to that point had not been working. I also stated my concerns about the persistent fever. They did not seem concerned about her state of health. They stated that everything I was describing was normal for viruses that they had been dealing with lately.

The next day my child had gotten even worse. She now had labored breathing. We decided to take her to a different urgent care where we were staying out of town. The nurses and doctors noted that my child had a fast heart rate, low oxygen level and bubbling/popping in her lungs. They suggested that we take her to the local ER where we were at. While at the local ER they had performed an X-ray and discovered that she had pneumonia. She is now on an antibiotic and nebulizer breathing treatments. She is improving but slowly.

I called back into the Keystone office once we returned to the area to try and obtain a school note for my child since the school will not allow her to skip gym class without a note from a physician stating that its recommended and I was told by the receptionist that she would need to be seen yet again just to obtain a note for gym class even though I had the paperwork from the ER stating that she has pneumonia and all of the medication that she is currently taking because of this.

This is the 2nd time that I have had a major issue with Keystone. The first issue was back in 2022-2023 when it took them 5 months of seeing my child with persistent fevers to recommend a referral to an ENT for her infected tonsils to be removed and now this issue that could have killed her, had we continued to listen to the advice of the staff at Keystone. For these reasons I have chosen to remove my child from the care of Keystone and seek an alternative medical facility.

It's so easy for health care providers to diagnose everyone with the same ailment when certain things are ramped at certain times of the year but that should not be the case. Each person should be looked at and treated according to their own personal history and current symptoms. These examples are some of the very reasons that patients are losing their trust in the healthcare system these days.

The office in Chambersburg is HORRIBLE. The front office assistants specifically Jessica has a major attitude to be working as the representative of the practice and the first person you meet. Called 15 min before appt stating I would be maybe 10 min late to have the person I spoke to tell me to keep driving from Mcconnellsburg, to then be told they canceled the appt after 10 min Always had positive experiences at waynesboro, but highly recommend going anywhere but.

I had to take my son to the Pediatric Walk-In clinic yesterday for a rash and infected finger. We saw Kim Slider, CRNP and I can’t say enough great things about her demeanor and bedside manner with my 5 year old. I appreciated that she treated him as the patient, spoke directly to him, and explained everything in a fun, silly, yet informative way he would understand as she went through the appointment. She had to drain his finger which he was very scared for, but he laughed through the procedure. When we got home he told dad that she was the best and so silly. Keystone Peds and our community are blessed to have a provider like Kim for our kiddos!
