Very scary dementia unit without any supervision. Staff are nice but are very hard to communicate with. Management is controlling and very mean and nasty. Beware

My mom was there for their PT in the skilled wing. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. PT got my mom walking better than before. What an awesome group of people. The skilled nurses and aids were so very good to my mom. Exceptional care. I would like to personally thank Marie and Cecilia for the best care for my mom. The CEO Walks around the facility and asks the family and residents how they are. He cares. I would highly recommend this place. Very clean too.

Elm terrace skilled is horrible facility. The residents are served cold lunch and dinner often and their meals tickets never have what they request on them. A few times I noticed that if they stated they didn’t want eggs, eggs would still be placed on the plate, its carelessness and unfair. A few residents were in pain because the Med nurse was so overwhelmed and backed up that they are never given medications at the proper time. Also Jackie in HR department is very rude and unprofessional. She doesn’t care to help out with concerns and has a very nasty disposition. The only Plus I will give this facility is that it was clean, housekeeping does well with the upkeep! The two front desk clerks on the skilled floor were also amazing and very friendly!

My sister is now living in Skilled Nursing at Elm Terrace. I moved my sister from a skilled nursing facility in NYC which was a horrific experience. So I have a very clear point of comparison.
My sister is not just existing but is thriving. My sister's room has a lovely view and is well appointed. My sister eats in a dining room three meals a day. Her first week there she was already attending physical therapy. My sister takes part in activities that keep her socially and mentally engaged. My sister goes to the library, hairdresser and nail salon. I could not ask for a better experience. While all of the above topics are important the thing that stands out is the care. Her care is extraordinary. I could not be more satisfied. If you are looking for a location for your loved ones, look no further Elm Terrace Garden is all you need.

I have had the honor of meeting some of the staff at this facility. It seems like not only do they really enjoy their jobs, but they also treat the guests there very well. As I walked through the hallways getting a tour with an employee name David N. all the guests smiled and said hello to him as he held open elevator doors for guests and knew them all by name. To me finding a place to live and having a happy environment go hand and hand and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in senior living.

My mother chose the live at Elm Terrace Gardens (ETG) because ETG provided independent living and a full life care plan, through which a continuum of services would be provided, if necessary, in Personal Care or Nursing Care.
Nursing Care: From August - October 2020 my mother spent time at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, Magee and Good Shepard receiving PT and OT. Eventually my mother was transferred back to ETG. Because my mother was enrolled in the full life care plan, she had a guaranteed place at ETG. My mother wanted to return to her independent apartment with a private duty nurse paid for by the family. The ETG Conditions of Occupancy agreement allows the resident to request for a reasonable accommodation to remain in the residential living unit; however, ETG denied this request. ETG advised that it could provide all the care prescribed in the discharge plan. This turned out not to be accurate.
Staff attitude in nursing care was a concern. The ETG nursing care appears to have a high percentage of memory care patients. ETG staff is comfortable working with memory care patients - staff listens to the patient’s request, politely responds, and leaves with no intention of fulfilling the patient’s request. My mother had mental cognitive ability. Frustration quickly mounted in nursing care. The Director of ETG Nursing advised me that the ETG staff needed to be re-educated. I interpreted that to mean that staff had to be advised that my mother was mentally aware and could remember that she made a request. One ETG staff member advised Mom that they, the staff, were not qualified to take care of people in my mother’s condition. (Mom was essentially a quadriplegic at that point.) ETG management discovered that the comment was made and the resolution was that the staff member was instructed not to have any further interactions with my mother.
There were issues from the first return day. ETG was not prepared to receive my mother and my mother spent most of the day waiting in a hallway. In a room, my mother initially did not have a call bell that she could utilize in her condition. ETG did not have all the lift tools that previous facilities had. ETG nursing staff did not have proper lift training and/or did not review the discharge instructions. It caused my mother excruciating pain to be grabbed by the upper arms/shoulder area. To place my mother in the lift, the nursing staff continued to maneuver my mother using her upper arms/shoulder area. My mother eventually refused to be moved via the lift. ETG regarded my mother as a non-compliant patient, but my mother declined to be moved because the techniques of the ETG nursing staff frightened her and caused her much pain.
In mid-November my mother was admitted to Jefferson Lansdale Hospital due to shortness of breath. Within a day she was placed on hospice. I had a long conversation with the hospital nurse about my mother and ETG. The nurse advised that the wounds were severe and that since my mother was terminally ill, nothing could be done. But if the situation was different, an investigation regarding the wounds could have been initiated and the hospital would have had serious reservations about returning my mother to ETG, based on ETG’s ability to provide wound care for my mother.
My mother passed away within the week at the hospital. These opinions have been shared with ETG. On, or around, 11/19/2020 my brother and I shared these opinions face-to-face with the Chief Operations Officer (COO), Director Nursing, and the Case Manager. At the end of that discussion the COO advised he would respond in one week. As of 9/13/2021 no response has been received.
Based on my comments, I rate the ETG independent living as one star for providing living accommodation only with no amenities. I rate the ETG nursing care as one star for providing poor quality of care.

I have had several family members in ETG. My Grandparents were there in the early 1980s. My Stepfather was there for rehab in the mid 1980s. My Mother moved into ETG in 1998. She is there 16 years later in Skilled Nursing. My experiences at ETG have been Positive. The Staff is caring and everyone has a positive attitude.
