I first used Dog and Cat Dentist for my 4lb soul dog Pippa almost a decade ago. She was a little senior at that point and I was terrified of putting her under for cleaning and extractions. Dr. Tsugawa and his team were incredibly competent and professional. You absolutely pay the premium for the level of care but I would have spent any amount of money to be sure she was safe. Fast forward to present day and we somehow ended up with an even tinier biewer (2.5lbs) with the smallest mouth ever and liver issues. Our normal vet didn’t even have the proper equipment to do his dentals. We’ve been to Dr. Tsugawa twice for Dougal - last year to remove retained adult canines (he kept his very sharp lil puppy canines) and cleaning. Came back this year for 16 more extractions and cleaning. Dougal had a seizure last year after the dental which was scary but didn’t seem to cause any long term issues. Dr. Tsugawa did additional testing this year because of that and I was really surprised this year how quickly he recovered this time around. And again yes.. this type of specialized care is very expensive but we are so lucky to have actual dentistry certified veterinarians available.

When our 2 year old cat Thomas mysteriously broke his jaw in two places we were referred to Dog and Cat dentist by our emergency vet. A little persistence secured us an urgent appointment with Dr. Tsugawa. I was very impressed with Dr. Tsugawa’s manner and knowledge as we worked through Thomas’s injury together. He made sure all our questions were answered as he determined a conservative approach that also addressed the seriousness of the injury. After surgery Dr. Tsugawa followed up frequently (even on weekends) to ensure Thomas was healing well. Six months on and Thomas is in great condition. I am so happy with this clinic. The service is impeccable (from Dr Tsugawa and the staff). Dr Tsugawa is so communicative. When I had a question, he called or Emailed right away. My cat had four teeth pulled, and after surgery, was able to eat canned food right away without needing medication. They also knew I'd be waiting in the lobby (for an Uber home) so they scheduled us first, in advance. The clinic is clean and run well and there's good coffee and comfortable chairs in the lobby. The procedure could have been done at a regular vet but the cost was worth the expertise and sense of safety. Dr Tsugawa rocks.

Just want to express our gratitude for Dr. Winer at Dog and Cat Dentist! We've had to bring in our older cat a couple times for tooth extractions, and once for a more complex surgery, and each time our experience has been really lovely and he's recovered quickly. Dr. Winer is great and we also really appreciate her policy on offering rechecks to make sure he's healing well afterwards. We're grateful we found this place because we are always pretty nervous bringing him to a new vet, and they've taken really good care of him here. Thank you thank you!

Amazing Service!! My dog is a very scared baby when he sees any vet. He's the dog known everywhere to snap at people lol. He went in to the exam shaking and came out calm. That's when I knew Dr Tsugawa was great energy 🙂 I warned Dr Tsugawa's staff prior to him going in for the exam, that my dog may not let him look in his mouth but Dr Tsugawa was the only person my dog has ever willingly let look. My dog had dental surgery today. I dropped him off at 10am. Around lunch I received texts from Dr Tsugawa of the the X-rays and his thoughts. He phoned soon after to clarify and see if I had any questions. We went ahead with the procedure. I received a text as soon as my dog was awake and normal around 12.30pm. At 2pm I picked him up. He was alert but a little unwell, as expected. Dr Tsugawa came out to speak to me, his staff clearly and slowly explained the medication to me and I was good to go home. I liked that Dr Tsugawa only wanted my dog on one medication for a few days for the pain/swelling rather than having a bunch of medications, which other vets always seem to prescribe after surgeries. The entire process start to finish was so smooth, clearly communicated and my dog is now at home resting and on the mend. Even at home I texted Dr Tsugawa a few questions and he responded promptly. I want to thank Dr Tsugawa and his team for the great service. I have already recommended you to friends.

The care my dog got at Culver City Dog and Cat Dentist was absolutely exceptional! When I found a tumor in my dog Charlie’s mouth, they fit me in the day after I called!!! They had a cancellation. Dr. Tsugawa moved swiftly to schedule him for a biopsy—he had the procedure the day after our initial consult.

During the consult, Dr. Tsugawa sat with me for as long as I needed to answer all of my questions. I didn’t feel rushed at all. It truly felt like Charlie and I mattered to him and he cared about Charlie’s well being. The doctor’s knowledgeability had me immediately relieved that I’d chosen to see a specialist in the dentistry field. I should mention that I sought the opinion of three different vets to verify that Dog and Cat Denistry was the best place for us to seek care for Charlie’s oral mass and they all unanimously supported us going there (I highly suggest you look at Dr. Tsugawa’s credentials and accomplishments on Dog and Cat Dentist’s website to support why he’s the person to go to).

Before the biopsy was even done, Dr. Tsugawa got Charlie tentatively on the schedule just in case the results came back as something aggressive as many oral tumors are (even though the schedule was busy the day he added us, he was going to make room to squeeze Charlie in—thankfully we ended up not needing that urgency as his mass was slowing growing and only locally aggressive, so Charlie had surgery three weeks post-biopsy). It was less than a month from when I’d first found the mass to when it was fully excised.

Charlie needed to have the mass removed from the caudal (back) roof of his mouth, including the underlying bone that was impacted and three teeth. Dr. Tsugawa skillfully performed the procedure and grafted skin from Charlie’s jowls to reconstruct the roof of his mouth. The skin graft was so cleanly done and he got clean margins! No one but me will ever be able to tell looking at Charlie that he had that kind of procedure.

Now I’ll share the parts that were most shocking about Charlie’s care at Culver City Dog and Cat Dentist—I’ve never experienced anything like it in his 9 years of care. During both the biopsy and surgeries I was receiving emails and/or texts updating me on the progress. Ie. “FYI, all is going well. We just got the CT completed and will be starting the biopsy shortly. Will call you soon to provide an update.” Photos while he was sleeping were shared with me to help me understand the scope of the work being done (ie. During biopsy he used a special kind of pen to draw on the roof of Charlie’s mouth to show me the area that would need to be removed (they had taken a CT scan)). I’m an anxious dog mom because my boy is my whole word. So there aren’t words to express what that meant to me.

Post surgery was even more shocking in the level of follow up care! Dr. Tsugawa was consistently texting to check in and answer any questions. I had direct access to him (I didn’t have to go through an office assistant or anything like that) and he was very quick to respond to any questions, even after hours. I can’t tell you what peace of mind that gave me. It is so unbelievably rare to have that level of care and devotion! Dr. Tsugawa’s patients clearly matter to him a great deal and this is more than just a job to him!

I consistently thought about how much I wish all medical care could be so personalized both for myself and for my dog.

Dr. Tsugawa at Culver City Dog and Cat Dentist is an incredibly knowledgeable, skilled, professional, empathetic, dedicated veterinary dentist. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice and believe you won’t do any better than here for your pet’s dentistry needs.

(I’ll add that I have pet insurance and the practice was very helpful in getting everything in order so that the procedures were covered without any hitches)

I find myself at a loss for words when trying to express the immense gratitude I have towards Dr. Anson Tsugawa and his wonderful assistant Fabian. My journey with them began amidst a time of great distress, following an unfortunate incident with another veterinarian that left my beloved dog in need of urgent care.

What truly sets Dr. Tsugawa and Fabian apart is their unparalleled level of dedication. Their commitment to my dog Zoe's recovery extended far beyond the operating room, with Dr. Tsugawa checking in regularly to ensure she was on the path to healing. Dr. Tsugawa also checked in throughout the weekend via text when he was not working at the clinic to show his compassion and care. Zoe recovered quickly and is now a happy dog again! 🙂

In a world where genuine kindness and empathy can sometimes feel scarce, Dr. Tsugawa and Fabian are truly angels. Their exemplary care has not only restored my faith in continuing dental care for my dog but has also ensured that my dog will enjoy good internal health for years to come.

Dr Winer and her team are incredible. Our sweet little dude needed a lot extractions . She spent an hour in consultation with us and answered all our questions. She called me during the procedure. Everything went great and he healed great. She then went above and beyond and wrote an appeal letter to his insurance that was denying the bill. I am a human physician and I know how much work goes into this - it means the world to us that she is putting effort into it. I am grateful to the team and Kaju will hopefully not need any more extractions for some time - but if he does we'll be back here.
