I highly recommend Coast New Horizon for the exceptional care provided to my sister and brother in law. Mali and staff are warm and loving with the residents. Mali keeps her home clean and inviting. Her back yard is filled with fruit trees and an abundance of flowers (also in front of the house).
Mali delivers nutritious meals and salads made from her fresh garden. She is welcoming and generous to her residents' visitors as well.
I'm extremely grateful for Mali assisting my sister to doctor appointments, etc. She has gone above and beyond her caretaking duties.

My mom stayed here for six months this year, and we always felt comfortable and happy with the care that she was being given -- the right mix of attentiveness and care and homemade food alongside the right amount of 'tough love'. It's a stressful time to have a loved one getting older, but Mali and her team made it a whole lot easier for my brother and me.

I am forever grateful for the care my mother received while she was at Coast New Horizon. I knew immediately when I walked in to tour Mali's home that my mom would be in great hands. Mali's is a natural with her residents and provides a loving an nurturing food. My mom LOVED the coffee and homemade soup and desserts. I always felt welcomed when I was visiting.

I love this home and moly the owner. She has always been so loving and caring for our grandmother. Her home is so welcoming and so positive. Whenever we went to visit there was delicious healthy food being served.
The backyard is an amazing garden, absolutely beautiful.
We have visited many care homes, nursing homes. This facility feels like a real warm loving home, full of loving people and energy. I simply cannot say enough about Coast New Horizon, Molly and her staff. God Bless you!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I don’t even know where to begin…The owner, Mali, saves money by living at her own house as a “caregiver”. The only upside is that Mali does keep her place very clean.

The Cons:

Mali quoted us $3000 for a shared room and when I offered to drop off a deposit immediately and sign the paperwork she said not to worry about it, that we needed “to learn to trust each other”. After my mom arrived and we sat down to do the paperwork she increased the price to $4000 and said that I was lying to try to get the price down. She made up this whole story about how she gave me her only copy of the paperwork and trusted me to bring it back but I didn’t, and that’s why there’s no record that the room cost $4000. She said that her shared rooms are normally $5000 if the patient is on hospice, but that she was giving me a deal. That’s right, she charges $1000 extra to help hospice patients! She said because the liquid morphine is so difficult (it’s not).

She is constantly understaffed with a very sharp turnover in employees which is a terrible sign. Often times there’s only one helper there even though Mali will say otherwise.

The first meal Mali made when I was visiting was amazing, she really hooked us with her food. But after that when I would drop in unannounced I would see that my mother would sit with a full plate of food that was not appropriate for someone with swallowing problems, like grilled whole green onions and meat that were super tough and not cut up, and the plate would just sit there with my mother in bed looking at it unable to feed herself. There is not enough help for assistance with eating.

One of the most damaging consequences of my mother living at Coast New Horizons was that Mali has very strong biases and opinions about medication without understanding the patients background. She made dramatic changes to my mom‘s medication without consulting hospice, even doubling up on my mother‘s pain medicine at night in hopes of keeping her asleep! Alternately, Mali withheld pain medicine during the day to try and keep her awake so she can sleep through the night. We actually had to have a meeting with the hospice doctor to educate Mali that withholding pain medicine for a hospice patient is not ethical and that there are other interventions if a patient is not sleeping at night.

This facility is not equipped for dementia patients or incontinence AT ALL. It hurt my heart to see Mali so angry and frustrated because my mother needed help going to the bathroom at night. Maybe it’s not a good idea to have the owner of the facility be the only one sleeping there at night if she is not willing to help patients who need assistance. Mali started reducing my mothers liquid intake after noon so that she would not urinate at night. My mother got a horrible UTI as consequent of this.

Mali actually had the nerve to say that she needed us to hire a private caregiver to tend to my mother from 10 PM to 6 AM if my mom wanted to stay, because Mali wanted to sleep uninterrupted. We started looking for alternative places when Mali said that she was ready to kick my mother out “tomorrow” because she couldn’t handle one more night of my mother waking up. I know NOW that this is not legal, but I didn’t at the time so we arranged for my mother to move within the week.

When we came to pick my mother up Mali got really aggressive and said that we owed her more money because she would have to find a new resident, and that she would not let my mother leave the house until we paid her. I took my mother anyways for her own safely due to the UTI and random medical changes. As we were pulling out the driveway Mali sent a male caregiver running after our car with her son on speakerphone (he’s her lawyer) saying they’d see us in court. It was like something out of a sitcom- I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t lived it.

* I am an only child, and do not have a sister. This was my mothers first placement, I was her caregiver for the past eight years.*

I left my 91 year old Dad for a couples of days at Coast New Horizon, Mali took extremely good care. He was giving food as per his liking, his medication was given on time. She also took him out to sit in her green backyard to get some free air. Mali provides personalized attention. I would highly recommend this place for elderly care.
