From the moment my aunt arrived, it was a terrible experience. My aunt is blind, and a Veteran and was placed there for a 20 day period through the VA hospital due to Cirrhosis of the liver, Colitis, and gastric bleeding. She was placed there for physical therapy. She was there two days and caught Covid, causing her to return to the VA. Once she was cleared with the VA she returned to Briarwood to complete her physical therapy. They lost her clothing, her medication, and new cane. Her chart listed Colitis, which causes diarrhea.
She had diarrhea four days, asking staff for Imodium daily and was told "we don't give Immodium to old people".
I can assure you this place is not meeting the regulations set forth by the Office of Long-term Care and at minimum patients are suffering from neglect and at risk of more serious violations regarding mishandling of medication. When she returned from the VA, she asked about her medication, and was told "we either lost it or it got thrown away we will have to order you more".
I called to address my concerns and was told the administrator was out, but spoke to the assistant administrator Brooke who promised to call me back with an update on where my aunt's belongings were. I have not received that call back as of yet. I did speak to the social worker who was argumentative and hung up on me.
I will be filing a formal complaint with The Office of Long-term care and ask they begin an investigation into Briarwood.
I would not recommend placing your loved one here for any reason. Please do your research and consider other placement options.

My mother was left alone and not secured when put in her room. She was a fall risk and no precaution was taken. No mats on the floor. She for some reason had fallen on the floor out of her chair and broke her hip. No one called a ambulance until 5 hrs later. She suffered a painful surgery that developed infection and increased sickness. My mom died died from this fall that could of been avoided it the staff would of done there jobs properly. My mom is gone! from For the time she was there, I witnessed

Briarwood is a very beautiful and well kept nursing home. I love this place for my mom. The staff is very friendly and care much about the patients. My mom was there in 2017 where she stayed 3 months. In 2019, she had to return to a nursing home setting and I chose to put her back in Briarwood because how caring the staff was. She has a private room; which is clean every time we visit her. She love the hot meals, the activities and how helpful the staff been to her during her stay. I would definitely recommend this nursing home if you are looking for a place for your love ones.

One star is too good for this place. I would not recommend this facility to anyone not even an enemy. Friday 12 Feb 2021 around 5:10 pm my mother was told she would be discharge Sunday 14 Feb 2021. As a professional health care nurse, myself that is unacceptable. My mother or the family was not given an opportunity to be included in the discharge process, to insure everything would be in place for her discharge, especially with the weather forecast being bad. Due to the severity of my complaint along with some other information, I am unable to discuss it here, it would take to long. However this is not the end of this complaint, I will be taking it up the chain of command to make sure it doesn’t happen to any other person.

Please do not put your loves ones in this place. My friend was there for several months and it was a terrible experience. When no one was around, some of the aides were very rude and uncaring to her. One even shoved her across the bed one time. Management was not receptive to our concerns. Worst of all, even though she could not stand up, they insisted she stand to shower. My friend was terrified that she would fall. When I argued with them about this, one of the women in Management irrationally accused me of screaming at her and threatened to call the police on me. Only when my friend was in Hospice care, did they allow her to have bed baths. If you have someone in this place, please watch them very carefully and check on them daily.

Briarwood is a really bad place. They simply do not communicate with family members. How they get away with this is beyond me. I have left twenty or more messages trying to get information about a patient who has now been there for a month. Nobody EVER calls back. In addition, there is no voice mail, so it is impossible to leave a message. The in-house doctor Shah does not even pretend to take messages. Sometimes you can catch a person familiar with your situation, but usually they are in a meeting. If you do manage to actually talk to them, they promise to call back with information, but this never happens. I also witnessed two different nurses yelling at patients. I have contacted DHS with a complaint, which I felt was my only recourse. Perhaps they can remedy this situation, but until then, please don't send anyone you care about to this horrible facility.

My dad was here in July, 2021 for 4 days. I told the administrator and the head of long term care how my dad had to be fed, and I also told the cna’s taking care of him how he has to be fed so that he could swallow. He had PSP and was losing the ability to swallow. Everyone knew this and disregarded it and didn’t feed him or give him water for 4 days. I found him close to death and had to ask them to call an ambulance. His kidneys has acute damage due to dehydration. I have his kidney numbers before briarwood and then after the starvation at Briarwood. He spent 6 weeks in the hospital trying to recover from this starvation. He fought hard and I fought for him but after leaving to go to rehab he passed away. I believe many of deaths they have here are due to neglect. If you want your loved one to survive and they can’t speak up and ask for food and water - don’t take them here.

This is the cleanest, most well staffed facility I've ever stepped foot in. The staff moral is just amazing! I love working here, they go above and beyond for their residents and employees. It is really like working with family because everyone cares so much, I am beyond grateful for all of my co-workers and residents 🙂
