I am quite impressed with the change that is now Avalon Health Care. The staff here is spectacular. Preet has demonstrated not only skill in her craft but a sense of respect for her patients as well as compassion for those who are hurting. A truly a kind and caring soul. My mother stayed here after foot surgery. I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews, but I was ultimately very happy with the care she received.

There were some ups and downs during her stay, but overall, the staff was kind, understanding, and compassionate. They even visited her in the hospital before she arrived at the facility and brought her flowers and a card — a gesture that meant a lot to both of us.

The only downside was the smell of urine in the facility, but unfortunately, that seems common in many rehab centers and nursing homes. The food also wasn’t great, but again, that was expected.

Bethany, Francesca and Justin were all exceptional — caring, attentive, and supportive throughout.

I would highly recommend this place!

This place is a joke. My mom stayed here and they rarely checked or changed her surgery dressing and when they did they just glanced at it. They didn't even store her dressing in anything safe or sanitary, just in some old wooden drawer exposed to anything and everything around it. Didn't do much at all to help her leg swelling go down. They allowed late visits, and due to my working hours I visited around 11pm, which was fine with my mom. After 3 weeks of visiting late hours they call me and tell me it's not allowed and goes against their rules when it's their own staff letting me in because the doors are locked, talking to me like it's my fault! Then an hour later calling me back to tell me that it's fine now that I visit at those hours! Not exactly professional leadership here! Just be cautious and aware if you have a loved one staying here. Seems like most of the staff is just there to collect a paycheck, or maybe they just have no budget to hire quality staff and supply quality equipment.

Not sure where to start, but I’m just going too…

1. Years ago, the old facility (a different name and owner) was different, but Avalon is no short of being one of the BEST in Bellingham. I was a little hesitant about having my Dad stay there, but was told by several local medical professionals that Avalon is now one of the top 3 centers in Bellingham now - and I have to agree 100%!!!

2. My son worked there years ago and was very impressed when we arrived “late” in the evening on 05/11/25 and seeing all of the staff there taking care of their individual patients/guests. My son, Austin, said back when he worked there the previous owners kept a small crew and they had a hard time taking care of everyone. But he too acknowledged how impressed he was with the larger crew of medical professionals working the floors and the personalized service we and others were receiving. They are all very attentive and caring. It’s impressive!

3. I have had every bit of personalized service with how my Dad is being taken care of. They personally call me each and everytime something changes in the care, if something changes with my Dad, or if they are recommending or asking for something deferent than what is being done. They even call me if they put him in a new room. When they call me, it’s right after it happens or when they find something new. It’s the damn best care I have ever seen!

4. I have had personal conversations with the rehab department, the chef, and the personnel supervisors. They want my Dad to be taken care of the best he can be and not just to their standards… but to our standards too. They have NEVER complained or refused anything I have asked - in fact they go out of their way to accommodate our family and my Dad. They go out of their way to do anything they can to make sure his stay is everything it can be and that he gets the best medical attention he can get while he is staying with them.

Bar none… This is the best facility I have ever seen in Bellingham. I would recommend Avalon to anyone and everyone. I want to thank them for taken such good care of my Dad and making this so much easier on our family.

To the entire Avalon crew… I’m so grateful with having you all and want to Thank You for accepting my Dad into your facility and taking the BEST care of him!

I would give them less than a star if possible.
The billing department is incompetent. They dont send medical paperwork to the insurance company. The insurance company can't make decisions on paying if they don't know what is going on.
They 'administration ' office is a joke. Calling on a Friday at 3 needing you to do something by the weekend which is 2 hours away. If they tell you to give paperwork to the nurses DONT! They will lose them then blame you because they dont have them. The so called head nurse is verbally abusive and nasty. Calling families that have never been through this process and threatening them while she is screaming.
As a family member who is trying to wrap their head around a loved one dying this is not what you need to deal with. NOT ONE PERSON THERE is competent to help you through this process in a kind professional manner.
PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE!

My mom has been in Avalon since July of last year and everyone has gone above and beyond to care for her and turn her health around for the better. I love all the nurses but I'd love to personally thank nurse Preet Kaur for always being so kind and caring n always making sure my mom is doing good and helping to cheer her up when she's down n most of all just for always being a GREAT NURSE, she is so good at her job!! Thank you all and thank u for making us family feel welcomed when we're visiting.

My mom was just discharged after approximately 10 weeks at Avalon. I waited until she completed her stay before I left a review because I didn't know if my feelings about Avalon would change over time.

From start to finish, I found Avalon amazing. There's not a single person working there that I wouldn't recommend. Some of the highlighted people who made my mom's stay were Preet (my mom loved her and she took good care of her) Emily (this woman is amazing and got to know and advocate for my mom at every turn, and Rani (who is on top of things and took care of everything). Reading some reviews, I think people mistake Rani's matter of fact way of dealing with people as a negative. Rani she shows her care for people by making sure they're taken care of. She does an amazing job with what I'm sure is an incredibly busy schedule. I found her easy to get ahold of and very responsive to any inquiries. She walked us thru all the steps that went from hospital transfer to Avalon until discharge to assisted living. It was all new to us and I don't think we could have done it without her.

Sadly, I don't know the names of the people doing the daily big care for my mom (CNAs). She loved her caretakers and had glowing reviews of them and many stopped to give her hugs on the way out.

Everyone at Avalon seemed incredibly caring and genuine. If my mom needs another rehab stint, or more significant future care, she has already decided she will go back to Avalon. Oh, and she raved about the food. A+

My mom was there for about 2 weeks post-surgery and (for a nursing home) the care exceeded my expectation. The director of nursing and admissions coordinator were wonderful, and worked with me to ensure any concerns were listened to and addressed. PT and OT saw my mom almost every day and worked diligently to get her strength back to go home. It was also one of the few facilities that had a private room available, which was important to us. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
