I'm going to start my review early! Meaning my family member is still incarcerated at Alaska gardens. I will start by saying my mother was at Alaska gardens several times years ago. Must have been different owners. This stay for my brother has just sucked. He was sent there for PT. Never had received PT. Went to visit the other day and his feet were jammed against bed board so bad he couldn't move. Then the social worker Emma was extremely rude to me over the phone about finances. When I signed paperwork months ago releasing my brothers social security check to them. I don't think they know what they are doing. Can't wait til my brother is safely out of there.

Alaska Gardens was home for my sister for over 10-years. It is conveniently located near I-5 which was convenient for all of our visitors. We have found the care giving team to be professional and responsive if concerns or inquiries arose. The reason for providing 4 out of 5, is the high turnover rate of staff which requires continuous care onboarding, however this is a health care industry wide crisis, not just Alaska Gardens'. There are definitely more pros than cons, hence why sister was one of the longest tenured residents.

Speaking from our family perspective, the administration staff are amazing. Particularly Geneva & Emma. Any questions about billing have always been addressed immediately by Geneva & explained in detail.
The care is another whole conversation.

Kinda hard to rate some of the things here since experiences vary quite a bit; personal experience with our relative here is that it's just OK. Would rate 2.5/5 if I could. Far as I've seen, the biggest issue this place has is that there's this feeling of a lack of upkeep, maybe some budget issues too. Services shut down and converted into storage rooms, a courtyard area full of thorny weeds running through the bushes, hardly any handicap spaces in the parking lot, some elderly patients going missing for a bit when nobody watches them, lots of scuffs and scrapes all over, a maintenance worker fixing a bed in the middle of the hall, sugar free options in the vending machines NOT being sugar free, that kind of stuff.

The Activities dept is awesome. They are always so helpful and caring. They make sure that all residents feel welcome and comfortable. The activities director, Crystal, has the biggest heart and is always smiling. They go above and beyond.

this place killed my mom. they neglected her until she died from lack of care they are responsible for. please, please don't let your loved ones be here. Their only job is to look after people and they just do not care for other people. most don't even speak our language fluently and that is no excuse. No one should be allowed in the medical care field with such low empathy and carelessness. They have cost me my favorite person in my world and I will never get her back in this world.

When we chose Alaska Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center for my mother’s care, we clung to a promise – a promise of compassion, attentiveness, and support for a woman who had always been our family’s pillar. At 51, her needs were profound, yet what she received in her final days was a stark, painful betrayal of that promise.

Every day, I sat beside her for hours, not just for the precious moments together, but out of necessity, to fill the gaping void left by the staff who seldom checked on her. The image of my mother, the center of my world, lying helplessly in unchanged diapers, haunts me. Despite our pleas, she was often neglected, her dignity stripped away in those long, unattended hours.

Her passing, alone and unattended, in the early hours of a cold morning, was the most bitter and heart-wrenching outcome of this neglect. It was a stark contrast to the rosy picture painted by the facility – a picture of diligent care that turned out to be nothing more than a facade, a cruel play for insurance payments.

I share our story, laden with sorrow and regret, to warn others. If your loved one needs more than just minimal care, if they deserve dignity, attention, and compassion in their vulnerable hours, Alaska Gardens is not the place. No family should ever have to endure the pain and betrayal we experienced.
