I don’t want to jip the front desk ladies who are the absolute saving grace of this facility. Their support, kind words, and dedication to integrity and go easy is the only reason I gave this place two stars.
We are self pay/ no insurance patients. This is important to note because it called MULTIPLE Times trying to get an honest transparent service price from this place. It explained to them that this is 100% mandatory for my child as he is temporarily deaf due to the liquid / blockage in his ears.
The day before surgery (after precisely six phone calls trying to get an accurate price) I was finally connected with Nadine in billing who works in anchorage. 0/10 this woman was biter, angry, laughing at me for being stunned. Stunned that the surgery center would charge over three times as much (3,800) as the surgeon (1,000) AND anesthesia (1,500). She laughed at me and explained that I’m paying for their staff and use of the facility.
I was shocked so I went in person to get he surgery center in person and was greeted by the super friendly same two women I spoke of at the beginning.
They printed off my son’s exact code and expected bill. 1800 (rounded) with 10-% pair in full discount.
THEN the sweet girl from the front was forced to call me back and apologize and give me the same price 3,800 that Nadine gave me because she had been reprimanded for giving me a different number.

They then printed off the SAME EXACT ESTIMATE for 1800, but they used a pen crossed out 1800 and wrote 3800. And asked for me to sign it. I refused. But kept is as proof for the complete gross mismanagement of this billing department.

It would be one thing if we received above and beyond service and care while we were there, but no. We didn’t. Our “recovery room” was dirty. Trash hadn’t been emptied in our room. No soap in the bathroom across the hall. Our nurse, had to be tracked down after she just put my crying son in my arms and walked away. We asked if he had taken any pain meds because he was SCREAMING. she didn’t know and went to go ask, then 12 mins go by with my son screaming and bleeding out of his ears on to me with nothing to wipe it.
She came back to give meds and then again I had to track her down to ask if we could leave because he wanted to go home. We spoke to her twice. We stayed there for 1.5 hours total. 20 mins in recovery. Over half of that in the waiting room before surgery. And they want 3,800 dollars for this?
I get that insurance usually covers this, so most people don’t worry about it. However this lack of care and excessive price was astonishing. They’ll be receiving further steps by our lawyer and steps will be taken to communicate with the appropriate departments in the mean time.
Do better.

I didn't think it was possible to have such a great surgical experience as the one I had at the Surgery Center. Every staff member I interacted with, from the front desk to the nurses to the anesthesiologists, was superb. Having now had similar surgeries at both FMH and the Surgery Center, I can say with no hesitation that my first choice for procedures would be the Surgery Center every time. Absolutely fantastic, all around.

I recently had a procedure done at the Surgery center. It was my first time there and I was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience. I’m a retired professional who ran his own practice /business. Being familiar with what it takes to provide an exceptional service and patient experience I can truthfully say that I was very impressed with every aspect of my experience. From the online check in, day of treatment ease and timeliness of my reception and procedure and even billing, everyone presented a positive welcoming demeanor that instilled confidence and warmth. Dr Teslow did my procedure and I only briefly met him before the sedation having seen his PA at his office prior to that. I saw Dr Teslow for my post-op appt a few weeks later and again was impressed with his explanation and advice. I would certainly see him for any procedure that he does. This was as near perfect an experience as I believe is possible. If I ever need any treatment that can be handled at the Surgery Center I would seek to have it done there. LeePayne DDS

This is a clean, modern facility that avoids the institutional feel of a hospital while remaining professional. The staff are great, everyone is very client-centric. One thing that stood out to me: when my meds were not controlling my post-op pain there was no fuss or wait. The recovery nurses popped out and had some more meds for me in less than five minutes. Highly recommended.

Professional, kind, knowledgeable and sterile surroundings: Surgery Center of Fairbanks offers these aspects of a medical-surgical center. The Fairbanks North Star Borough is fortunate to have such an entity. Thank you!

The decor is a little post modernist but the staff is friendly and skilled. Glad to have another option for surgery in town. They even sent me a get well card. Thanks.
