My husband Ron was a patient in the rehab wing for two weeks. The therapy staff is outstanding! The meals are very good, a little heavy of fried foods and sweet deserts (he is diabetic). The nursing staff and the aids are very caring. My only fault lies with the under staffing of aid staff. All aids work very hard and could use additional help!

During a tough transitional decision, we chose North Hills for my mother. She has Alzheimer’s disease and we learned that although we didn’t want her to have to go to a nursing facility, and although there are challenges, she is doing well, all things considered. I feel the staff really care about her, even on a bad day.

My best friend is staying at North Hills as I write this. Her experience here has been a nightmare. She was admitted on a Friday and unfortunately had weekend staff who were unskilled, lazy and arrogant. They made the entire weekend unpleasant. Her experience has been totally uncalled for, from not receiving her meds on time to placing her dinner
on her tray without offering assistance.
With shoulder surgery, you only have one arm to use for 3 weeks. Hard to cut Salisbury steak with one hand.
There was no assistance to the bathroom all weekend.
I suggest if you must come here, don’t come on a weekend.
Since this morning, the return of the regular staff has been like a ray of sunshine. Plenty of care & concern and meds right on time.

The staff is very nice but it's like they short of help. Patients will call for help and they have to wait a long time for someone to come assist which leads to some using it on themselves. They shower staff doesn't shower patients like they should. I honestly wouldn't recommend anyone this facility but like I said the workers are nice.

Thank you to all the staff at North Hills for their loving, supportive and gentle care of my mother. We could not have made it thru this without you all. Thank you so much.
I will miss you all everyday! ?

I so badly want to give five stars for the ones who were awesome. Some of the CNA’s talk down to you like your less than. Most of them are incredibly awesome! My next few complaints have nothing to do with the staff as much as they do with the staffing. They do not have enough nurses on staff. One night our 830 pills got there at midnight. And by the time I got my insulin, it was 115. I was hurting so bad at one point I was writhing in bed. I was crying and hyperventilating because I was hurting so badly. We were told that the pills were late a lot because there were other priorities, and I understood that, until that night! If you are hurting and ask for your pain medicine sometimes you’ll get it, and sometimes you won’t. I’ve had a pain pill I got every six hours or so and then I had a PRN pain medicine. I could have every four hours. The nurses would say well it’s an hour to your next pain medicine or you just had your other pain medicine an hour ago. But that’s not what the doctor ordered. That other pain medicine was not nearly the strength of the PRN. As a matter of fact, some nurses would give me both if it was close proximity to me taking the other. Someone mentioned the powdered eggs. Every single day from August 3 until August 24 I had powdered eggs. Some of those were in the hospital and some of those were in rehab . Every single day! Some breakfast were too skimpy. I have a vertical sleeve gastrectomy and can’t eat much. The breakfast will be one little scoop of powdered eggs, one piece of toast, and one slice of bacon. Then to the side is a big bowl of slimy oatmeal! I guess if you’re really hungry, you can eat the slimy oatmeal, but if you’re a diabetic, they don’t even bring you a sweetener to sweeten your oatmeal. Luckily, the last week I was there, the doctor put me on a regular diet. So I got salt and I got sugar. Some of the CNA‘s would give me salt when I requested it and some wouldn’t. The doctor told me after being in there two days, he did not want me on a low sodium diet. Somehow it didn’t get from him to the dietitian. But I would tell them what he said, and the CNA still wouldn’t give it to me. That was just a couple the same few that talked down to you. I know there are some people in the nursing home wings that they have to be very firm with to get them to listen, especially in the dementia wing . But, we’re talking about the rehab wing. I was 60 years old and had perfect facilities except for broken leg. I would get frustrated at the way they would speak to me. I felt like telling them I have a masters in mathematics, which is nothing special, but it tells you I’m not stupid! I would take on any of those CNA‘s in a battle of wits! There’s not many I would want to because there are some that I literally wanted to cry that I was leaving their presents. There were a few I would’ve almost run on a broken leg to get away from . I wish the higher up management was more concerned about the lack of staff, and I believe it’s because there is so much turnover, that if a person shows up daily and does their job, that’s good enough. The day before I left, or the day I left , they had about 10 CNAs doing orientation. I know one time I heard them saying so-and-so didn’t show up today. Meaning in my book she wouldn’t have a job tomorrow. A few days later a mother and daughter working there. Just disappeared in the middle of the day. Of course they had to be replaced. I think there is a high turnover among CNA‘s, but they pay them fairly well considering it only takes 3 to 4 weeks to get a CNA certificate. One girl tell me they start out at $16 an hour. Not a bad wage. I know there are times this job is very very very hard. I want to make sure my review includes how many wonderful wonderful wonderful people work here. It is 95% good in about 5% bad

My husband was there for 2 weeks after discharge from the hospital. The care was excellent. The nursing staff was spot on. I can't say enough about the care of the aides and the cleaners. They were excellent and so kinds. I recommend North Hill Rehab

From my dad who was there two weeks: “Yes. They make promises and don’t keep them. I haven’t had a shower since I got here. The food comes late and is cold, and is usually bland,(powdered eggs). The morale of the workers is low. They are understaffed. They’ve misplaced some of my laundry.
The one good thing is that the physical and occupational therapists are good.”
