I am a resident at Midtown Oaks in Altoona P.A.and I want to tell you the experience I'm having there. First of all their dietary the kitchen part they do not know how to cook the food is terrible they're always running out of food they never put snacks on the floors no snacks or ice creams at all and the head of dietary doesn't order everything he's supposed to order he's always running out of food in the kitchen now we have no milk they have no snacks to put on our floors I keep asking him the nurses keep asking him but they don't bring any up and I'm diabetic we need snacks I have filed numerous papers and talked to numerous people about the dietary staff they don't do anything about it they said we'll take care of it but nothing has been done about it.we get dirty silverware and dishes.

I worked for this place and one morning from 0-15 or more patients in less than an hour all got a virus. 2 of my patients had orders for Zofran i gave 2 patients the Zofran called the supervisor she took my list of sick patients to call the doctor she never came back up and the list of sick patients was bigger. I STARTED TO BECOME VIOLENTLY ILL. EMESIS EXTREME DIARRHEA I COULDN'T STOP I ASK FOR HELP BO ONE CAME SUPERVISOR SAID SHE WAS BUSY. I GOT INTO THE TOP DRAWER WHERE ONLY EYE GTTS AND INSULIN WAS KEPT AND FOUND AN OLD SMASHED IN A BLISTER PACK A ZOFRAN. I TOOK THIS PILL TRYING TO HELP MY SYMPTOMS AND HELP THESE PATIENTS. IT DIDN'T WORK. THE SUPERVISOR THEN CAME UP AND SAID YOU CAN GO HOME. I said ok can you count with me SHE SAID NO IM NOT TAKUNG CARE OF THESE PATIENTS IM BUSY. I looked at the other nurse that I told I was taking this Zofran to and SHE SAID I'M NOT TAKING CARE OF YOUR PATIENTS IM BUSY. I CRIED. SHE FINALLY TOOK MY KEYS AND SAID "ILL COUNT WITH YOU BUT I'M NOT TAKUNG CARE OF YOUR PATIENTS. MY 3 HOUR RIDE HOME TOOK 6 HOURS DUE TO HOW SICK I WAS... IN APPRECIATION THESE PEOPLE CALLED THE STATE BOARD OF NURSING ON ME NOT FOR NEGLECT AS THEIR NURSE AND SUPERVISOR WERE DOING BUT FOR TAKING THE ZOFRAN THAT DIDN'T BELONG TO ANYONE. I DID IT FOR THE PATIENTS. Another instance of NEGLECT is one of my patients and family member was very upset they said they have waited forever for their Benadryl cream the patient got an order for the supervisor threw me a tube of Kenalog cream and said "just put this on him to shut him up" I did not do this I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT HIM BENADRYL CREAM WITH MY MONEY This patient had tears of joy. He tried to pay me but I refused the money THE FACILITY ALSO TRIED TO SAY I GAVE THE WRONG MEDICATION TO THE BOARD OF NURSING. 30 YEARS OF NURSING AND I COULDN'T IMAGINE WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE. THEY JUST OPENED UP 3 CASES OF NEGLECT WHEN I TELL THE BOARD OF NURSING THE TRUTH. GOD BLESS THESE PATIENTS

My mom suffers from depression, she has a lot of health issues, however, the staff at Midtown Oaks has taken excellent care of her. The nurses, the activities, everyone involved in her care have been wonderful. If we have questions, they are answered, some of the staff go ABOVE and BEYOND to be helpful. As soon as you enter, you are greeted with a smiling face. The facility is clean and neat. My mom wouldn't do anything at home, but here at Midtown Oaks she has made friends, and looks forward to the activities, having meals with other people she can relate to. It was a hard decision to have someone else take care of mom, but the staff has made the transition an easier one. She isn't thrilled with some of the foods, but it is hard to please everyone. I am thankful for the care and attentiveness she receives.

Sad they don’t take care of patients like they are paid to. They let patients alone and don’t check on them . My mother in law was in there and a friend is in there and they both will tell you this place doesn’t care about elderly stuck in bed ..

It is sad and painful when, a loved one, for their own health and safety, needs to move into a long term nursing home. Over the past two months of residency, my mother has been well cared for at Midtown Oaks.

My experience is the staff (physicians asst, nurses, aids, physical therapist, administration, janitorial staff, receptionist), have all consistently demonstrated a commitment to courteousness and compassion for the patient and their family caretakers. The building is ideally located in the Renaissance area of the city. The main lobby is pleasant. The patient’s rooms are nicely painted a light color and are a spacious. When we have needed to discuss any health concerns, its been easy to get a care plan meeting with the entire team that cares for my mother.

Prior to Mom’s admittance, we (her family) met with Midtown Oaks’ Directors to discuss the poor reviews and reputation of the previous owner/operators (Altoona Nursing Center). We were satisfied with Midtown Oaks general manager and director of admissions expressions of awareness, and their assurances about working hard to reverse the communities negative impressions. Based on my experience, they are succeeding.

My mom Audrey passed away on Palm Sunday at midtown oaks. Mom was first admitted to 4th floor which was like independent living but what a joke , 2 aides in particular did nothing to help especially at breakfast. They couldn't even bother to cut their food up, dirty uniforms, hair not brushed and just stunk. That's an aide I'm referring to. I found multiple pee stains dried in mom's bed, her clothes were destroyed from being washed at facility when mom's family did her laundry, half mom's personal items were missing constantly. Mom was eventually moved to 2nd floor because of needing further assistance and that's where mom declined rapidly. Her med nurse, big woman all tattoo up decided it was ok to give mom meds without water MULTIPLE times to the point she was laying in red vomite from her meds , reported multiple times but nothing ever done. Never no ice water for residents, slopped puree food infront of them and never attempted to help feed mom. Finally mom's roommate had mental health issues she had her meds changed This was told to us by nurse about roommates med change. The roommate hurt my mom, arm swollen and bruised, she kept holding her head pointing at roommate. No nurse. No aide noticed anything about mom's BIG purple swollen arm, it was me her daughter who demanded an xray and a reason why this resident was aloud to beat on mom without anyone noticing. Mom's aide for that day stated "it was probably roommates she been acting crazy " and the aide just walks out. I myself feel that the abuse is what caused my mom's decline so rapidly. She stopped eating 78lbs at death. SHAME on MIDTOWN OAKS and SENIOR LIFE for letting my mom die a horrible death. Just an FYI senior life never visited mom once she wasn't able to go back to daycare, another money gimmic for the greedy.

My family member came to this facility for a short term rehab stay. From the minute we entered the facility with staff having the room fully ready. Staff was very attentive with my family members needs. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend this facility.
