I have spent the past two months visiting my friend Chuck at Marin Post Acute Care and through my many visits I was consistently impressed with the care and cleanliness ... and friendliness. This part of healthcare is a very tough job and I am struck at how well the staff does it. Patients can often be difficult and yet I never heard a bit of frustration, only patience and kindness from the nurses, CNAs and helpers to the lovely ladies who greet you at the front door. Of the few (quite a few) facilities like this I've been in, this is far and away the best, I have quite an overly sensitive sense of smell and a bit of an aversion to hospitals - and Marin Post Acute Care is spotless and staffed with nice, competent people. I appreciate them all for all the care they gave my friend.

This is my 4th stay at MPA. Like any place this big and complicated, there are good things and not so good. Most of the nurses are excellent. Of special note: jenna,angelica,Tonka. The quality of care provided by CNAs ranges from 0-10. Of special good note : Ross, Kaylee,Breuny,Carlos.
Social Services Director Ana is amazing! I don't know how she does it, she deserves a bundle of gold stars!
Cleanliness of facility is A+
Food mostly D-
Big improvement would be if CNAs could be encouraged to think of patients as "friends" not an unpleasant task to be endured.

Top notch physical & rehab services. Comfortable rooms. Janitors, nurses, CNAs, social worker & front desk…all top notch making stay bearable! I found the meals generally inedible, surviving mostly on peanut butter and jelly w/milk.

This place is horrible. If you ring the bell for assistance I had to wait 1 1/2 hours for tea. Older adults screaming all day and night. Men walking around in diapers. Some of the staff is awesome others rude and acting like they are doing you a favor. One of the nurses said I was so polite and quiet, I was very respectful because I know people needed more help than me. I had a shared bathroom that smelled all the time. A man on the 3rd floor was yelling at an elderly man and told the elderly man he was going to through him out the window if he did not stand up. My husband saw it and was disgusted and he went to the from desk to complain NOTHING HAPPENED. I was there for PT and the team was wonderful! That’s why I stayed but left after 1 week I would not recommend this place ever. It’s horrible. The lobby smells nice and clean go to the back so bad!!!!

Stay far away as possible from this horrible, nasty place. The Kaiser Case Managers, Roxanne and Jenn, should not be Case Managers. Especially Roxanne. She is rude doesnt listen to what family members have to say, and hangs up on you. She is also a liar. I had a family member in here, after falling and breaking a limb.

I have been here for over two years. I have to make my own bed and carry my own trays of food out of my room. There are a couple of good nurses, One good thing. The nurses are good forare they give me me my medications sometimes on time, and sometimes not. I do everything myself. I am only here because I am closer to my grandchildren in Novato and my son in Los Angeles. The food here is sometimes good and sometimes hungry bad. You do not get a choice of what you eat. Here only eat what they serve you or knock.

7/11/24 update:

MPA Has started promoting social media but deleted all previous content on Facebook. There is no direct answer as to which day of the current 14 day quarantine Unit 2 is in beyond "the first week" so either people can't answer /don't know or won't answer - statement from 2020 is still on their website. Facebook still has the Mentions which I believe MPA will not be able to censor, it is up to the public to post that though.

Edit: Did finally get an answer from the DON/Director of Nursing, currently on day 4 as it was 7/1 that the continuous negative testing days started. As always it was not easy to get a direct answer to direct questions.

I think the fairest thing I can say is there is no consistent way to rate places if the turnover is high, since the people working there will not even be the same anymore.

The current administrator seems to be trying, and I understand changes come slowly. The context here is I have a relative that has been there for 5 years, so long term care. Honestly it's kind of like the devil you know situation, because I can't honestly compare when I haven't spent nearly as much time at another facility, but I don't believe it's the worse although I DO think the entire industry is fraught with problems - and it would be extremely naive to think it's just this place and you can just read reviews here and there to make a good decision, especially if the staff today won't be around tomorrow. Just know that long term care is hugely different than the unit downstairs.

The Ombudsman is only an advocate, and I don't get the sense CDPH is really in touch. They went out to investigate (I called when it was under a different administrator) and the report didn't even have a number on it. What government agency wouldn't have a tracking number on a report?

Maybe Google will shadow ban this and it's more of an advice/tip post than a review, because honestly I have found no substitute for spending A LOT OF TIME ON SITE. Unfortunately the reality is there won't be much help from the powers that be unless things gets REALLY extreme, and even then nothing may happen. It's important to know the reality we're dealing with.

I am writing this review based upon a recent stay at Marin Post Acute. Before arriving at the facility I had preconceived ideas of what a Care/Rehabilitation facility would be like. Well let me say I am very happy to tell you they were all wrong. I could go on with a long narrative but I won"t, I will just hit from my experience the top qualities of why you or a loved one will have the BEST professional care, upbeat, humorous, family friendly, dog friendly, over the top stay.
Your first impression is that it is clean, you can see that everyday with numerous staff members cleaning your room and all public areas all day long. Also it does not SMELL bad!
When you encounter people for the first time you are making judgments, everyone does and I can say my first impressions were spot on correct. From the Administrative staff, nursing/assistant care they all are top professionals. They accomplish this with out flaw from the first time you meet them to the last minute of your stay. Their every minute priority is to provide you "quality care" , from my experience they deliver. They deliver this with friendly, humorous, positivity and they all are approachable. The facility director Kyle and head of nursing Edith meet with patients daily and manage from patient and staff interaction not from behind an office door that is shut. That speaks volumes and that is why your stay or your loved ones stay will be over the top great. MIchelle from Social Services works on your needs daily to make sure your needs are being meet, ie. doctors appointments, transportation and more. They listen and take action and they follow up.
The Physical and Occupational therapist are fantastic. They have a team approach and you will have more than one therapist work with you. Although in general I don't believe in multiple therapist approach they pull it off flawlessly. When I first meet each one before they even spoke with me they had read my history and had a "plan of action". Sometimes the plan changed based upon my condition for the day, that did not phase them they adapted and worked with me to accomplish my goals. They are all very accomplished in their training and are enthusiastic, friendly and adaptive. Were one size fits all they believe that you have to have many sizes in inventory to be adaptive to their patient needs. They ROCK when it comes to therapy. That is one of the over the top reasons why you or your loved ones will find Marin Post Acute to be one of the Elite care givers.
In conclusion my family and I cannot forget how wonderful everyone treated me. In your future if you should have a need for a stay at a care facility please consider what I have posted here and choose Marin Post Acute you will not be disappointed. Thank you Team Marin Post Acute you have helped me get this far on my recovery and I will never forget my stay with you.
