January 19, 2022 - This organization should not be self regulated. They do whatever it takes to dismiss claims during investigations. Some complaints that are too damning are totally overlooked and ignored. Just look at the number of complaints for investigation that are reported annually - HUNDREDS as mentioned at the 2021 Annual Meeting - yet only VERY FEW members are ever disciplined.

Nurse's fees have been raised to help cover the cost of the rising number of investigations (in excess of 400 in 2020) but only 2 or three nurses are disciplined and it is usually for stealing a pill or failing to pay their annual fees. There is no discipline handed out for patient mistreatment or patient abuse. Just check their Wall of Shame on their web site - ONE DISCIPLINE IN 2021 out of HUNDREDS of complaints.

When you bring forth NEW evidence discovered during investigations, they don't wish to deal with that either. The next thing that happens is that staff at your hospital will retaliate against you for reporting the nurses even though Continuing Improvement and Patient Safety members told us they want to receive complaints from the public. If you or your family are having a sub standard experience with a health care worker, be sure to RECORD EVERY SINGLE CONVERSATION, take pictures OR TAKE VIDEOS!!!

Our family member was mistreated and abused while in Esterhazy hospital in 2018. We reported several LPNs to this organization. Instead of dealing with the complaints, our family was attacked with lies made by the 4 nurses we reported. Otherwise the complaints were dismissed.

A previous poster in her review stated that this organization sides with the nurses and no one is disciplined. We agree. That's exactly what happened to us. There is no correction made for the mistreatment of patients. In our case, the Nurses LIED and got away with it. The S.A.L.P.N. Complaints Investigation Team does everything they can to discredit the person filing the complaints. They side with the misconduct and incompetence of the LPNs. This is "conflict of interest". They pay themselves to investigate their own team members. You cannot investigate your own team. When the LPNs made allegations with no documentation, our family as the complainant had no chance to get an explanation for the lies. We were expected to accept the lie riddled reports with no question.
We feel sorry for the LPNs who are good nurses. We know of an LPN who quit because of the TOXIC ATMOSPHERE IN ESTERHAZY HOSPITAL.

This organization should NOT BE SELF-REGULATING.

This is an organization that should not be self regulating! They FAILED on every level to do the right thing when it comes to addressing patient and family mistreatment by certain nurses. The investigator we had is a manipulative investigator that would not let us record the meeting we had with her regarding our complaints. It was ok for her to record it, but she said if we record the meeting, then she would cancel the meeting and go back to Moose Jaw. ...You cannot investigate somebody on your own team!!! CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!! And your 3rd party investigator is a little too cozy with SALPN!!! ...seriously, who does phone call investigations...they are NOT EFFECTIVE!!! We requested a face to face meeting, and SALPN were not interested in accommodating this. You can still have a meeting with social distancing... It was something how you presented your correspondence to us..it was very unprofessional. It is funny how you wanted to have the upper hand right from the start, and it is even more pathetic that how the SALPN Lawyer was defending a 3rd party independent investigator. That alone speaks volumes of how this organisation operates!!! Our family is grateful for the LPNs that do an amazing job in our Province. And for the ones that did an amazing job caring for our family member. We thank you...
However, it is pathetic how the SALPN organization defends certain nurses that we had legitimate complaints about. IT IS YOUR JOB TO HELP KEEP NURSING IN SASKATCHEWAN GREAT....NOT PROTECT THE GUILTY!!! It is also scary that this organization has a back log of complaints to deal with, but nobody really shows up on your wall of shame!!!! Lynsay Nair...what is your legacy? Do the right thing for a change... Perhaps if this organization actually DISCIPLINED incompetent behavior, the number of your investigations would likely go down. #advocateforchange
